Jacques Kallis's second century in 24 hours was an innings of two distinct parts. He took until the 32nd over to reach his half-century from a tortuous 89 balls, but then launched into overdrive, smacking a further 75 runs in 58 deliveries. And as our graphic shows, the bulk of his runs were scored in two distinct regions as well - 38 runs through the covers, and 31 past square leg.
Kallis has always been adept at waiting for the bad ball, but on Sunday he took that ability to new extremes. He scored a sedate 64 runs from the 101 balls he received on a good length, but he was ruthless on anything over-pitched, slamming 39 runs from 25 balls. Most of them, of course, through the covers.
And similarly, he was respectful of Zimbabwe's off-stump line. He picked off 84 runs from 117 balls in that region, but woe betide any bowler who strayed towards his legs. Thirty times, Zimbabwe did just that, and they were deposited for 41 runs.
