Gillespie satisfies Australian team medicos

Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie joined the Australian one-day team in Sydney today for a training and fitness session and proved to team physiotherapist Errol Alcott that his left hamstring tendon has recovered.

Gillespie bowled at top pace off his long run and pulled up well after the session. He also had a long session with the Southern Redbacks in Adelaide last night.

Errol Alcott said:

"The session in Sydney aimed to review the progress of Jason's left hamstring tendon and, as expected, it has come along well. I'm satisfied with his recovery.

"Jason has been in a four to five week maintenance program since he incurred the injury during the Sydney Test in early January and it's promising that he has pulled up well from the bowling sessions last night and today."

Jason Gillespie said:

"I feel really good after two long bowling sessions. I've been working hard on the maintenance program I was given after I suffered the injury in Sydney and it has brought me back to full strength.

"I'm really looking forward to playing for the Southern Redbacks in the Mercantile Mutual Cup match on Friday night at the Adelaide Oval and hopefully I'll pull up well after that."

Alcott also said that the National Selection Panel had been informed of Gillespie's injury progress. The Australian squad for India will be announced tomorrow. The time of this announcement has not been decided.

Other injury news

Gillespie's fellow Australian fast bowler Brett Lee underwent surgery to his right elbow last night in Melbourne. Lee will give a report on the surgery tomorrow at a media conference in Melbourne. The time of this media conference will be announced tomorrow morning.

West Indian Ricardo Powell bruised his left knee after colliding with the SCG fence in the first Carlton Series Final today, but returned to the field soon after. The injury is not serious.

Nixon McLean also left the field for a short time today. He has a slight groin strain.
