became the 23rd batsman to score 100 tons when he took a
century off Cambridge University at Fenner's. Gooch hit two
sixes and 13 fours in 175 minutes and 147 balls and immediately
retired on 105. Sir Jack Hobbs heads the all-time scorers
with 197 centuries. Among the modern day players, Geoff Boycott
leads the way with 151 tons.
