Guyana have named an under-strength 13-man squad for their Carib Beer Series semi-final against Barbados at the Carlton Sports Club starting on Friday.
The squad will be without Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the West Indies captain, and Ramnaresh Sarwan, both of whom are injured. While the nature of Chanderpaul's injury is not known, Sarwan was forced to cut short his tour of the New Zealand with the West Indies after pulling a thigh muscle.
Both players are the country's premier batsmen and will be missed against Barbados who are one of the favourites to take the title. The team will be captained by former West Indies fast bowler Reon King and includes Leon Johnson, the West Indies Under-19 captain. Johnson, who has already played for the senior team, scored prolifically in the Youth World Cup staged in Sri Lanka earlier this year.
Left out of the squad are fast bowler Reon Griffith and Ryan Ramdass. Guyana are scheduled to leave for Barbados on Tuesday.
Squad - Reon King (capt), Krishna Arjune, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Narsingh Deonarine, Leon Johnson, Travis Dowlin, Steven Jacobs, Assad Fudadin, Derwin Christian (wk), Neil McGarrell, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Esaun Crandon and Imran Jaferally
