The Hong Kong Cricket Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Burke as the new National Coach.
Charles is a 30-year old Australian who joins the HKCA after recently completing a development role with the International Cricket Council (ICC) where he worked with associate and affiliate member countries in the East Asia-Pacific region in the High Performance and Coach Education area. He takes up his appointment with the Hong Kong Cricket Association on 1st May 2010.
Charles is an Australian Level III qualified cricket coach with over 10 years experience, including working with the Australian Test and ODI teams over the years. His representative coaching experience includes:
  • Head Coach - Indonesian National Cricket Team (2005 ICC EAP Trophy)
  • Head Coach - Western Australian Under 19s
  • Head Coach - Western Australian Under 17's Female
  • Coaching Assistant Role - Australian Men's & Women's National teams - various roles
  • Coach - High Performance camps at Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence
During his playing career, Charles played more than 200 Premier Cricket level matches in Australia and England and served as a playing professional in England for four years. He is a swing bowler and a middle order batsman.
Regarding his Hong Kong appointment, Charles says "I'm excited about the opportunity to be involved at associate cricket and the chance to work with a passionate and professional organisation such as Hong Kong Cricket Association.
"There has been some great development on the national teams over the last few years, I would like to ensure we do not lose any of that and look to move forward as a professional and exciting cricket team. The Under-19s is proof we have some talent coming through and we must develop and give these young players opportunity.
With a good pathway and skilled coaches Hong Kong Cricket will go from strength to strength."
