David Hussey flew to the top of this season's county run tally with another breathtaking century for Nottinghamshire on the weekend. Hussey belted 180 from 164 balls in a severely rain-affected match against Gloucestershire at Trent Bridge.
It was Hussey's third hundred for the tournament and he now has 1114 runs at 85.69 from his 11 first-class games at a remarkable strike-rate of 85.95. The latest effort meant little for his side, which declared at 8 for 400 and bowled only one ball to the visitors before the match was called a draw. Ben Edmondson took 2 for 93 but was one of the Gloucestershire bowlers who suffered as Hussey clobbered six sixes and 17 fours in his powerful display.
Justin Langer and Cameron White both contributed to Somerset's nine-wicket win over Northamptonshire at Taunton, although the star was undoubtedly Marcus Trescothick. Langer scored 83 and White made 37 in Somerset's 459, which was set up by Trescothick's 146. Northamptonshire's Chris Rogers managed only 9 and 0 as his team was bundled out for 221 and 358 - White ended with match figures of 4 for 64 - before Trescothick eased Somerset to their target.
In the first round of Pro40 matches, the Australian pair of Simon Katich and Travis Birt guided Derbyshire to victory over Glamorgan at Derby. Chasing 109 from 22 overs in a rain-reduced clash, Birt made 32 and Katich raced to 46 from 21 balls as the win came with 31 deliveries to spare.
