Wavell Hinds, the West Indies middle-order batsman, said he was confident of his team making it to the group stages. "I think our chances are pretty good. The guys are coming into their own, our practice [sessions] have gone very well and our practice game went well so we are looking forward to fine-tune all the kinks so that we can qualify for the main championship," he told reporters ahead of West Indies' qualifying match against Zimbabwe at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Hinds, who was woefully out of depth during the DLF Cup in Kuala Lumpur last month, seemed to regain a modicum of form when he struck a fluent half century in the warm up game a couple of days back. Seeing it as a positive sign, he said, "It's coming together, it's not what I would like it to be coming from Malaysia but it's improving and I'm looking forward to exploit the conditions here and make most of the opportunities."
However, Hinds observed that the team needed to tweak a few things, especially with respect to conceding extras. "No team wants to bowl extra balls. The guys have been working hard over the last two days in the nets and I'm sure that after the eleven is selected they will get it right for the first game."
As to which position he would prefer to bat in he said, "I am looking forward to putting my best foot forward for my country irrespective of the position that I'm asked to bat."
