The ICC has confirmed details of the independent match referee and umpire appointments for the Australia v West Indies Test series, which gets underway on 23rd November with the `Gabba Test in Brisbane.
Alan Smith from England will carry out the match refereeing duties for the full five Test series. Smith, known in the game as AC, played six Test matches for England in the early 1960s and is a former chief executive of the Test and County Cricket Board. He has refereed four Tests and 13 One Day Internationals since his appointment to the ICC panel in 1998/99.
New Zealander Doug Cowie will stand in the `Gabba Test, John Hampshire, England, officiates in Perth while India's Srinivas Venkataraghavan takes charge of the third and fourth Tests in Adelaide and Melbourne. The ICC umpire for the final match in Sydney will be announced shortly.
Australian Cricket Board umpiring appointments announced for the first two Tests are Daryl Harper and Peter Parker (third umpire) in Brisbane and Peter Parker and Randolph Woolridge (third umpire) for the Perth match, which starts on 1st December.
