The Indian team has decided to pull out of the Singapore Challenge to be played from August 20-27. This was announced by the BCCI secretary Jayawant Lele on Friday. Pakistan will replace India. The other two teams in the fray are South Africa and New Zealand.
The decision comes in the wake of the ongoing investigation in the match-fixing scandal by the Central Bureau of Investigation involving some players and officials. The BCCI had earlier said it would restrict the number of one-dayers played by the team. Indian coach Kapil Dev had suggested earlier last month that India should not play any international matches till the probe in the match-fixing scam ends.
Earlier this week, India failed to qualify to the final in the Asia Cup where they went down badly to both Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
