India still favourites for series

England may not quite have finished off the job in the first Test in Nagpur at the weekend but bet365 were clearly impressed by their efforts as they have cut them to 5/1 (6.00) to win the three-match series, which continues with the second Test in Mohali

England may not quite have finished off the job in the first Test in Nagpur at the weekend but bet365 were clearly impressed by their efforts as they have cut them to 5/1 (6.00) to win the three-match series, which continues with the second Test in Mohali, starting on Thursday.
Having looked a shambles in the run-up to the match, England should be high on confidence, even if Michael Vaughan, Marcus Trescothick and Simon Jones will all be missing for the rest of the series.
The tourists were trading at 11/2 (6.50) just before the first Test but are now on offer at 5/1 (6.00). However, bet365 clearly feel that India will turn in a much-improved performance in Mohali, as they are 8/13 (1.61) to take the series. The draw is now 9/4 (3.25), in from 100/30 (4.33) at the start.
Since England squeezed out a victory in 1984/85, India have lost just three full Test series on home soil, to Pakistan in 1986/87, to South Africa in 1999/00 and Australia in 2004/05 - a pretty outstanding record.
Whitewash cut again
It's all change in the correct score betting markets, too. India to win the series 2-0 was the favourite before Nagpur but the new favourite is a 1-0 win, available at 15/8 (2.87), while the 2-0 win is still tight at 9/4 (3.25).
An England 1-0 is now just 6/1 (7.00) from 12/1 (13.00), while a 2-0 win is a massive 28/1 (29.00). The 1-1 draw is 5/1 (6.00) and a 0-0 stalemate is 11/2 (6.50).
Four of the six Tests to have been played in Mohali - venue for the second Test - have been drawn, while India would be confident going into the final Test in Mumbai, as they have won nine and lost just five of the 20 Tests to have been played at the Wankhede Stadium.
