1. Morkel gets Gambhir first ball: With his first ball of the day, a jaffa, Morne Morkel got rid of India's most consistent batsman in recent times, and two more came soon after.
2. Sehwag loses self-control: Virender Sehwag had put South Africa on the defensive with a century disciplined yet quick, but went chasing one wide delivery too many from Wayne Parnell. That brought South Africa back.
3. Steyn goes mad in the third session: It started with MS Dhoni padding up to Paul Harris and gloving a big offbreak, but Dale Steyn's spell of 3.4-2-1-5 stunned India.
