Streak retained captain for Coca-Cola Trophy
Heath Streak was retained as the captain of the 15-member Zimbabwe squad for the Coca-Cola Trophy in Sharjah. This was announced by the Chief Executive DA Ellman-Brown in a press release on Friday. Guy Whittal will be his deputy for the tournament to be played from October 20 to 29. Former Australian fast bowler Carl Rackemann will be the coach and AliBhai Omarshah will be the manager.
The other teams which are participating in the tournament are India and Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe start their campaign in this tournament against Sri Lanka on October 21.
The team: Heath Streak (captain), Guy Whittall (vice-captain), Alistair Campbell, Stuart Carlisle, Andrew Flower, Grant Flower, Travis Friend, Trevor Madondo, Douglas Marillier, Mluleki Nkala, Henry Olonga, Bryan Strang, Paul Strang, Mark Vermeulen, Dirk Viljoen. Alibhai Omarshah (manager), Carl Rackemann (coach), Amato Machikicho (physiotherapist) and Malcolm Jarvis (fitness trainer & team analyst).
IT report to be finalised only next month
United News of India (UNI) on Friday reported that the Income Tax (IT) department has unearthed certain discrepancies and gross undervaluation of property by the top cricketers and officials after scrutinizing the documents seized from their residences during their country-wide raids on July 20.
UNI said that in view of the huge amount of information collected, the appraisal report could be expected only next month. Quoting department sources, the news agency said that the scrutiny was progressing well and added that some of the cricketers were having numerous bank accounts and with their names figuring in a number of firms, it could take some time for the completion of the report.
The IT officials have so for searched the business and residential premises of many cricketers, officials and bookies including the former Indian captain Kapil Dev, Mohammad Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja, Manoj Prabhakar, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Nikhil Chopra. The department have also questioned the cricketers to seek clarifications on the documents.
Patiala court issues arrest warrant against Bedi
Following his failure to appear before a Patiala court for three previous hearings, former Indian captain Bishen Singh Bedi has been issued an arrest warrant by the Judicial Magistrate MD Dillon earlier this week.
United News of India (UNI) reported that while issuing the warrant, the court had ordered the cancellation of bail bonds that were filed by Bedi based on the same grounds. The agency also reported that the judicial magistrate has summoned Bedi based on the arrest warrant on October 14.
The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) secretary, MP Pandove had earlier filed a defamation suit against Bedi for leveling charges against him and the PCA through the media.
Aashish Kapoor to lead Chennai City team
Former Indian off-spinner Aashish Kapoor will lead the Chennai City team which is slated to play the Districts team in the annual three day CP Ramaswamy Iyer Trophy match in Chennai from October 21 to 23.
