An Israel U14 team returned Friday morning from a 4-day tour of Cyprus, where they played two matches against local opposition, and participated in a 7-a-side tournament as well. In between games the team practiced hard, whilst evenings were spent learning about different aspects of the game such as scoring and the laws of cricket. The 13-man squad was made up almost exclusively of children from schools in Be'er Sheva, where the ICA has been teaching cricket for the past few years.

With no more European tournaments in the U13 age category, ICA youth coordinator George Sheader, keen to maintain the enthusiasm of the new generation of players, took the initiative in arranging a tour to nearby Cyprus, who embraced the idea and lent their support. For most the trip was their first time abroad and the first time they had ever played a competitive cricket match. Based at a camping site alongside a magnificent sports complex belonging to the British Military, the fields and nets were just a short walk away.

Israel pulled off an exciting victory in the opening 30-over game, with 11-year old Nati Assaf carrying his bat for 21* and captain Raz Krispin scoring 22 as Israel successfully chased 130 to win by 4 wickets. Cyprus leveled the series with a win in the second match, again batting first and scoring 171 in their 35 overs which was beyond the reach of the young Israeli's, despite more runs from Krispin (22) who emerged as the find of the tour, and Nadav Avraham (26). The tour was also highlighted by a hattrick for Elad Assour during the 7-a-side tournament.

With the tour a good success for both associations, it is hoped that tours at different age groups between the two countries will be arranged in the future.
