For the 2nd year running Jimbaran Cricket Club won the senior League title at Bukit Ovalon Sunday, defeating the Sidakarya Lubaks by 115 runs. Soni Hawoe lead from the front for Jimbaran, scoring 96 runs and taking 4 wickets, including the prize scalp of Ray Elliot who scored 57 for the Lubes.
After winning the toss for about the 5th time in succession , Jimbaran showed great application to bat 50 through their full compliment of 50 overs, scoring 7-271. Apart from Soni, Agus Abadi scored 58 after an opening stand of 50 with Alan Wilson (14). Zac made 24 and the others all chipped in to build a big run chase for the Lubaks. Mac, Nick Blackbeard and Ray Elliot all bowled 10 overs with reasonable economy but it was New Zealander Trevor who returned best with 2-13 from 5. Richard Simmonds took 2 wickets including that of Soni, while Ray Elliot took 2-30 from 10.

The Lubaks looked good at drinks with 83 on the board without loss. However, Soni had Ray caught behind with a nice outswinger 2nd ball after the resumption. The Lubaks were always going to struggle after that. They did, however, they show great application with Trevor, Kevin White and Paul Ingram, who all stuck around for a while to finish with a total of 156 from 45 overs. Soni bowled 10 overs and took 4-24 to take man of the match. After his 96 he had trouble walking the next day, but continued his duties with the school competition on Monday.
He was pipped on the line for bowling honours by young Putra Dermawan, who took 4-18 from 7 overs, 1 day before his 13th birthday. Ozzie also bowled his chinaman style well to take 2-12 from 5 overs and Suda was economical with 0-17 from 7 overs conceding less than 2 1/2 runs per over and beating the bat on numerous occasions.
As usual Nick Blackbeard played the game in great spirit and was most sporting in defeat. He came up with the great idea of forming a 2nd Indonesian side for next season to represent the Lubaks ,orientating around Gus ,Wan, Zac and Yeri, supplemented by the best juniors. There are plenty of those, and all they need is one decent pitch (such as Cibubur) in the Sidi area, to hone their skills up to the Putra D and Suda A standard.
All in all a great culmination, to a great League season and thanks go to all participants. School comps continue with primary 9 Kendongonan, primary 5 Jimbaran,Primary 2 Sesetan and Primary 4 Sidakarya enterring semi finals on Thursday morning at Perkanti oval. Senior High 5, Angkasa High , and Sunari High were all winners in round 3 of the High school comp played with hard ball and pads with 25 overs per side.
