Katich to replace Hayden in VB Series squad

Cricket Australia today announced that the National Selection Panel (NSP) has chosen New South Welshman Simon Katich in the VB Series squad to play India in Sydney on Thursday 22 January.

Katich will replace Matthew Hayden in the 13-man squad for the one game before Hayden returns ahead of Australia's next match against Zimbabwe on 26 January in Adelaide.

NSP Chairman Trevor Hohns said: "Simon's form has been irresistible this summer and although his selection in the squad is just for one match at this stage, we are keen to see how he performs at one-day international level."

Simon Katich said: "It was a nice surprise to get the call up and I'm absolutely thrilled to get this opportunity.

"I love playing at the SCG so if the chance presents itself I'm keen to grab it with both hands."
