The touring Canterbury Kiwis Emerging Players cricket team had their best win so far of their tour of Northern New South Wales, convincingly beating the Emu Colts in their 'One-Day International' in Maitland.
Batting first, the Kiwis were in early bother at 10/1 before Alex Hedges and James Biddick took the score through to 88, when Hedges was dismissed for 58. Biddick and Chris Sowden put on a 36-run partnership, before Biddick was dismissed for 36.
Iain Robertson then joined Sowden in the 31st over and the pair put on 176 in the final 19 overs. Robertson ended up 127 not out, an innings which was described by locals as one of the best ever seen on the ground. It included 18 fours and three sixes.
Sowden ended 57 not out as the Kiwis finished on 303/3 off their 50 overs.
The Emus were never in the hunt. They slumped to 60/7 before limping through to 175 all out. Bernhard Ballin took 3-52, Hedges 2-4, Robertson 2-21 while Brandon Hiini and David Hay also picked up a wicket each.
The team begin a three-day 'Test' against the Emus in Wyong on Monday.
