A new state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Kochi is expected to come up in three years, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has announced. The KCA has acquired 23 acres of land at Edakochi along the Vembanad lake, where the stadium will be built.
"We have paid an advance of Rs 10 crore and the registration will be completed within a month," TC Mathew, the KCA secretary, said. "The concept and design will be finalised in six to nine month's time and the stadium is expected to be ready within three years."
Mathew said the stadium will be designed along the lines of some of the famous venues across the world. "We are looking at the stadiums in Adelaide, Johannesburg, Mohali, Hyderabad and others for the design of the new stadium," he said.
The city already has one venue, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which has hosted one-day internationals.
