Rishon Le Zion scored their third straight win in Division 3, defeating Ra'anana 2 by 5 wickets at Hadar Yosef on Friday. A heroic 95 from Israel U19 opening batsman Safania Naguakar was not enough for Negev 2, who lost by 4 wickets to Lions Be'er Sheva. In Division 2, Lod maintained their promotion hopes with a comfortable 76-run win over a depleted Negev 1 team, and Neve Yonatan crushed Diamonds by 271 runs in Ashdod.
In a match played in Dimona, Lod were restricted to 168 for 9 in their 40 overs. Negev were never in the game with none of the batsman managing to make a reasonable contribution, bowled out for 92.
Neve Yonatan had things all their own way in a one-sided contest in Ashdod. Benzie Kehimkar (70) and Aby Daniels (42) led the run festival for the home team, who amassed 298 for 7 in their allotted 40 overs. Shimshon Razpurker then ran through the Diamond middle order, taking 4 for 6, as the Diamonds were dismissed for 79.
Rishon, playing their first season in the domestic league, are a team consisting of predominantly new comers to the game. For all their enthusiasm, they struggled in the early part of the season but have since added Sammy Benjamin to their team which has given the team an added boost. Benjamin, who would be a top performer in any Division 1 team, scored 78* on Friday, helping Rishon reach their target of 148 set by Ra'anana 2, for whom Reuven Bergman excelled with 47. Although it was Benjamin who led the way for Rishon with the bat, Harel Nagan and Yoni Sidelsky both bowled well to take 2 wickets each.
Lions Be'er Sheva have been almost unbeatable this season, and were not expected to be seriously challenged by Negev 2. However Safania Nagavkar had other ideas, scoring 95 out of a total of 206. The next highest score was 11 by Nir Dokarkar. Naguakar then took 3 wickets with the ball, but it was not enough, with Lions reaching their target for the loss of 6 wickets. Samson Bhorgarkar top scored with 53.
