Lod step closer to league title

Yefet Nagavkar scored an undefeated 78 as Lions Lod easily defeated Be'er Sheva 'A' by 8 wickets in their Premier League match played in Be'er Sheva on Saturday

Yefet Nagavkar scored an undefeated 78 as Lions Lod easily defeated Be'er Sheva 'A' by 8 wickets in their Premier League match played in Be'er Sheva on Saturday. Set 183 to win after Be'er Sheva had won the toss and decided to bat, Gershon Massil (16) and Mahendra Jaiswar (21) lost their wickets, before Shalom Rubin (28*), playing his first match for his new club after an unfortnuate hand injury has seen him miss out the first 10 weeks of the season, joined Nagavkar to finish off the game.
Earlier in the day Isaac Massil took 3 for 30 and there were 2 wickets each for Gershon Massil and Janeth Silva, as Be'er Sheva were bowled out for 182. Opening batsman Yona Malyekar top scored with 33.
With Lod firmly secure at the top of the standings with a maximum 20 points from their 5 games, Ashdod 'A' reclaimed second place on the table with a comfortable win over Tel Aviv in Ashdod. Tel Aviv won the toss and elected to bat, but a spectacular batting collapse saw them skittled out for a paltry 62. Only Stanley Perlman (25) made any sort of contribution, as Menashe Wadhawkar (4 for 11 in 6 overs) and Hillel Awaskar (3 for 8 in 3 overs) both returned outstanding figures. Tel Aviv new ball bowler Simon Lipshitz picked up 3 wickets of his own, but his team were never going to defend such a low score and Ashdod secured the win in the 14th over with 6 wickets still standing.
In a fascinating Division 2 match played in Dimona, Anish Zaveri continued to pile up the runs, scoring 109, and Sanjay Shah contributed 65, as Diamond Cricket Club amassed 350 for 6 batting first against Dimona 'A'. Sasson Soloman scored 94 not out and Rakhamin Charikar 57 not out as Dimona replied with 268 for 3, finishing 82 runs short. The win takes Diamond into second place behind run away leaders Lod Cricket Club.
