Day one of the IPL saw plenty of twists and turns on the field and while Mumbai Indians and Bangalore Royal Challengers took the honours on the field, it was our editor, Sambit Bal, who raced to top of the leader board in the Star Wars fantasy league competition.
While his trump, Albie Morkel, did not play, Sambit gained points through Sanath Jayasuriya, Abhishek Nayar and Praveen Kumar, and ended the day on 406. But close on his heels, just three points behind, is Sanjay Manjrekar, who earned heavily from MS Dhoni and his trump, Jesse Ryder. The latter scored no runs but picked up a couple of wickets and catches.
Sambit chose to be modest about his performance. "Not bad at all, considering my main man, Albie Morkel, couldn't play. Imagine your kit not landing in time. All a conspiracy to keep me down. But Abhishek Nayar's three sixes were a bonus. I didn't see those coming."
And day two could just belong to Sambit again. "Today will be a big day. All my batsmen - Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj, McCullum and de Villers are playing. And Sehwag is my trump."
