McCAGUE LOOKS TO MELBOURNE
Former England paceman Martin McCague has approached VCA prmiers Melbourne with a view to playing district cricket this summer. McCague played a season with the club in 1990-91 before his career took off with Kent and England.
"Martin is heading to Australia and he`s like to play a season. He`d be doing it purely off his own bat as an amateur," Melbourne secretary Mark Anderson says.
"He`s be a handy pick-up considering Simon Cook`s move to NSW and the fact the club might not see a lot of Brad Williams."
Elsewhere, 1994-95 finalists Collingwood have lost stalwart paceman John Bailey to suburban cricket. Likewise, Richmond evergreen Peter Davies after 269 games and Ringwood`s Len McKeown, having taken the last of 238 district wickets, are now playing subbies with Box Hill and Croyden respectively.
