There have been speculations in the Media over the handling of the Tender to grant TV right of the BCCSL

BCCSL
11-Nov-2000
There have been speculations in the Media over the handling of the Tender to grant TV right of the BCCSL.
The BCCSL wishes to clarify the matter in a bid to dispel doubts cast in the minds of the people owing to these media reports.
The BCCSL called for open tenders from International bidders for the sale of the rights for Tv coverage of Sri Lanka Test and One-Day International cricket for the period beginning from 2001 - 2003.
Accordingly, a number of well-recognised International Firms showed their interest. Only a few were qualified to be evaluated.
The evaluation was carried out by the Executive Committee of the BCCSL with the assistance of the BCCSL Legal representative and representatives of the Auditors of the BCCSL.
After careful consideration, the Committee comprising of the above members, shortlisted the best two competitive offers.
Thereafter they were invited for negotiations before a Committee where the Director Sport, representing the Ministry of Sports too participated.
The Board wishes to state that it has at all times adhered to the correct Tender, Legal and Financial procedures and in this instance too it has been done with utmost transparency.
In the circumstances, reports that the BCCSL CE Mr. Dammika Ranatunga has met with the Hon. Minister of Sport and complained about the procedures adopted by the Board to award this Tender has perturbed the members of the BCCSL.
On inquiry, Mr. Dammika Ranatunga denied that he had made any complaint to the Hon. Minister of Sports on this matter, but had discussed the matter with the Hon. Minister solely on a query made by the Hon. Minister.
The Board wishes to assure the General public and all Cricket lovers that everything in relation to this has been accomplished according to accepted norms and procedures.
Herewith we annex the BCCSL auditors report on this matter, which we have submitted to the Hon, Minister for perusal.
Thank you for your publicity
