Minor Counties Championship Round Up

Shropshire beat both the weather and the Worcestershire Board XI to record a 50-run victory in the ECB 38-County Cup at Oswestry.

On a day that saw the entire Minor Counties championship programme washed out - and the ECB 38-County Cup ties at North Perrott and Porthill Park abandoned without a ball bowled - Shropshire managed to get the better of Worcestershire in a 48-over contest.

Skipper Bryan Jones hit 58 of Shropshire's 169 for eight, and left-arm seamer Anthony O'Connor then weighed in with five for 26 as Worcestershire were bowled out for 119 in 40.4 overs. They were eight for four at one stage as O'Connor struck three times in his first two overs, but Dave Manning (53) and Richard Wilkinson (29) then led a revival with a fifth-wicket partnership of 80.

Once they had been parted, Shropshire asserted themselves again and O'Connor returned to collect two more late-order victims.
