Mitchell McClenaghan and Jasprit Bumrah made the most of a bouncy surface to help Mumbai successfully defend a small 143-run target, by 14 runs against Delhi in the Indian Twenty20 competition at Wankhede stadium on Saturday.
Zaheer Khan, Delhi's captain, put the hosts in to bat at the toss and his decision paid off as a strong and confident Mumbai batting unit struggled to answer questions posed by a Delhi attack, lined with experienced bowlers. Mumbai's bowlers faced a daunting task of making early inroads and restricting Delhi's batting unit that required just 7.10 runs an over from the onset. Delhi was off to a disastrous start as opener Aditya Tare was run out in the first over itself. McClenaghan added to their misery four-balls later by dismissing an inform Sanju Samson, who drove him straight to mid-off.
The New Zealand seamer then accounted for Shreyas Iyre in his next over off a tickle down the leg side and then Corey Anderson in the same over. Delhi was left in tatters at 24 for 6 in seven overs. Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris ensured Daredevils stayed in contention, with a 91-run stand for the seventh wicket - but some smart end-overs bowling from Jasprit Bumrah ensured the target remained out of their reach. Bumrah, with figures of 2 for 21, and McClenaghan, with figures of 3 for 24, guided Mumbai to their sixth win in seven matches.
