Morkel keen for one-day glory

Albie Morkel, the South Africa allrounder, is confident that his side have what it takes to secure the forthcoming one-day series against England and make it a tour to remember.

Morkel, older brother of Morne, missed the 2-1 Test series win but is keen to ensure South Africa end their already impressive tour of England on a high. South Africa's first task is a Twenty20 next Wednesday, followed by five ODIs.

"We've been playing some good one-day cricket, we were number one in the world earlier this year and we're a proud nation," said Morkel. "For us to come over here and win a Test series and a one-day series in England would be a big achievement and we're all really keen to do that."

Morkel is an entirely different cricketer from his younger brother Morne, a versatile and primarily one-day player who has experienced English conditions while playing for Durham in this year's Twenty20 Cup. He already has form against England, too: his 20-ball 43 and 2 for 12 helped notch a comfortable win for South Africa in last year's ICC World Twenty20.

"I've tried to keep myself fit during my time off and played a couple of games for Durham and then after that club cricket, but adapting to international cricket again is going to be my big challenge irrespective of the conditions," he admitted. "Getting used to the intensity that international players play at again is going to be my biggest step.

"The rest of the guys [one-day specialists] have been busy back home and they might be a bit rusty to begin with but they've got three warm-up games to get it right so hopefully we'll be alright for the start of the series."

Morkel warmed up for the one-day series with a useful allround performance against a PCA Masters XI at Wormsley, cracking 35 off 21 balls before picking up 3 for 29.
