Australia's hopes of adding the Carlton & United Series to their summer trophy cabinet was dealt a blow on Monday with the news that vice-captain Shane Warne could miss the rest of the tournament through injury.
Warne has been advised he will be sidelined for 2-4 weeks after tearing his side muscle while bowling during Australia's surprise 45-run loss to Pakistan at the Gabba in the opening match of the Carlton & United Series on Sunday. He completed his 10-over spell in the afternoon session claiming 2-52, but was forced to bat with a runner when he appeared later in the evening.
However, the Australian selectors have opted against adding a player to their squad for the time being.
The selectors resisted the urge to call up another bowler - such as NSW leg-spinner Stuart MacGill who performed with distinction for Australia A in the recent warm-up matches against Pakistan -- and will head into the match against India at the MCG on Wednesday with a reduced 12-man squad.
Australian squad: Steve Waugh (capt), Michael Bevan, Adam Dale, Damien Fleming, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Shane Lee, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds, Mark Waugh.
