A superb innings of 142 by Nicola Payne set up St Albans Blue for a
first innings points win over South Canterbury at Timaru in the
Christchurch senior women's cricket competition.
St Albans Blue was in trouble at 30 for three until Payne and Anna
Morris put on 139 for the fourth wicket in the only two-day match
played during the weekend.
South Canterbury had declared at 197 for seven with half-centuries
from Lauren Cormack and Selene Charteris.
St Albans scored 201 for seven declared in its first innings.
Batting a second time, Cormack and Charteris again gave South
Canterbury a fine start of 97. When the game was called off with no
hope of a result late yesterday afternoon, Cormack was 81 not out.
After the first day in other two-day matches, St Albans Gold is
strongly placed. It scored 309 for four declared, and forced
East-Shirley to follow on when it could muster only 63. At stumps
East-Shirley is 59 for two in its second innings.
At Garrick Park Lancaster Park-Woolston benefited from a first-wicket
partnership of 95 between Paula Flannery (60) and Jo Strachan (59).
Lancaster Park declared at 257 for nine.
Anna Smith held the Marist reply together with 46 not out, as her
side reached 89 for four at stumps.
