NEW ZEALAND v SRI LANKA 1990-91

At Dunedin, February 6

15-Apr-1992
At Dunedin, February 6. New Zealand won by 107 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. Both New Zealand openers were missed early in the innings, and from then on it was a cakewalk for the home team. All the top-order batsmen scored at a good rate, and Smith plundered his undefeated 42 from 21 balls. Ranatunga was the best of the bowlers, and the best of Sri Lanka's batsmen, too, with a well-compiled 50 in 59 balls. But his colleagues squandered their chances, preferring to score runs quickly instead of building their innings. The only blow for New Zealand was the injury to Morrison, who twisted an ankle badly when Sri Lanka began their reply, and was unable to play in the one-day series against England which followed.
Man of the Match: K. R. Rutherford.
