England opener Matthew Dowman batted his way into the record
books with a magnificent 267 on the second day of the Under-19
Test against the West Indies at Hove last month. The lefthander achieved the highest individual score by an England
Under-19 player.
One of the world's greatest cricketers Sir Donald Bradman remains
to be in public demand despite reaching the age of 85 on August
27. "Barely a day goes by without mail arriving from overseas,
interstate and locally addressed to Sir Donald," South Australian
Cricket Association (SACA) executive manager Barry Gibbs said in
Adelaide on the 85th birthday of the great Don Bradman.
West Indies all-rounder Jimmy Adams will increase the Caribbean
connection in the English county game when he joins Nottinghamshire on a one-year contract. The 25-year old Jamaican replaces
New Zealander Chris Cairns, who is likely to be wanted for the
Kiwi tour of England in the first half of the summer.
Leicestershire's West Indies fast bowler, Winston Benjamin, is
joining Hampshire on a three-year contract. The 28-year-old
Antiguan will be replacing former West Indies pace ace Malcolm
Marshall, who retires at the end of the season after 15 years
with the club.
Zimbabwe made a flying start to their seven-game England tour at
Haslingden where they cruised to an eight-wicket win over League
Cricket Conference.
The Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan
(BCCP), Shahid Rafi, has dismissed the allegation that a
representative of one of the sponsors was a member of the World
Cup committee.
Master batsman and former captain Javed Miandad is the highest
paid Pakistani in both Tests as well as One-day internationals,
revealed an investigative story published in a national daily.
Miandad with 121 Tests, is in the top slab by virtue of which he
is paid Rs. 35000 per Test. He receives Rs. 18000 for every
One-day international, the report said.
Former Pakistani captain Imran Khan has advised pacemen Wasim
Akram and Waqar Younis to give up playing county cricket
forewarning that the excess of matches could adversely affect
their performance in the coming years.
Ted Dexter has condemned the standard of the English county in
his final report of as chairman of selectors. The departing
Dexter, who resigned when England went 4-0 down to Australia in
the Ashes series, suggested that the England team's poor
performance record merely reflected a shrinking pool of available
talent.
Dr. Mohammed Ali Shah, Senior Vice President of the Karachi City
Cricket Association (KCCA), has supported the suggestion of
limiting the term of office of the KCCA office bearers because it
would help strengthen the Association.

The BCCP is planning to form a foundation for extending benefits
to cricketers from the income of One-day Internationals. The
foundation, to be called the Wills foundation will organize oneday matches for the past and present cricketers. The BCCP is
working out details about the formation and other aspects to be
involved in its functioning.
A Test players XI, led by Iqbal Qasim, defeated Aga Khan Gymkhana
by three wickets in a festival match on the occasion of the All
Karachi Tariq Alam Benefit Tournament.
Dr. Mohammed Ali Shah, Senior Vice President of KCCA, has renamed
the newly-developed Lord's cricket ground in North Nazimabad,
Karachi after his father, late Justice Asghar Ali Shah. The
stadium has been developed after getting a 20- year lease from
the local municipal authorities.
A token fine of Rs. 15000 each was imposed by the Disciplinary
Committee of the BCCP on captain Wasim Akram and his deputy,
Waqar Younis for giving an interview to an English tabloid, The
Sun which caused a stir among the followers of the game.
Australian opener Michael Slater suffered a rare disappointment
on his otherwise excellent first tour of England when he bagged a
pair against Essex at Chelmsford.
Sri Lanka objected to the appointment of John Reid as referee for
their Test and One-day International against South Africa because
of his South African connections. The former New Zealand captain
