"The Sunday Telegraph" of Britain apologizes to Mr. Khalid Mahmood and Mr.Intikab Alam (Managers), Javed Miandad (Captain) of Pak team that toured Eng and all cricket followers in Pak for its derogatory article about Pak Cricket, Capt and team in an article in July '92. It has also agreed to pay an undisclosed amount to a charity as damages. ====> MORE A libel action filed by the Pakistan cricket team and its governing body after allegations by the Sunday Telegraph newspaper of cheating during last year's Test series was settled on friendly terms in the High Court in London on Tuesday. The Sunday Telegraph apologised to the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan, joint team managers Intikhab Alam and Khalid Mahmood, and team captain Javed Miandad. The newspaper carried an article in the comment section on July 12 last year with the heading "the pariahs of cricket - Pakistani cricket has now clearly fallen into the habit of cheating". During the 1992 summer tour of England, during which the Pakistani Test team beat England 2-1, it was claimed Pakistani players tampered with the seam of the ball to enable their fast bowlers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis to swing it prolific distances. The Pakistani authorities denied the allegations. In court, the Pakistanis accepted the newspaper was entitled to express views with which they disagreed. They said they were, however, concerned about the way and the terms in which the article was framed, which caused deep distress to them personally and to millions of Pakistani cricket lovers in Pakistan and Britain. The Sunday Telegraph agreed to make "a suitable donation" to the Abdul Sattar Edhi Foundation, Karachi, a charity chosen by the Pakistanis, and to pay their legal costs.
