Young players excelling in the current season's National Schools Championship will be rewarded with cricket scholarships, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced.
A PCB official said that in line with the Board's focus on reviving cricket at grassroots level, cricket scholarships have been instituted to educate and benefit talented cricketers emerging out of the inter-schools competitions.
Three promising cricketers from each region will be awarded scholarships valued between Rs 3,000 to 5,000 per month, according to the PCB.
A mechanism has been devised to carry out the scholarship scheme in an appropriate manner. According to the mechanism, PCB Regional Development Managers will be asked to consult and seek recommendations from City or District Cricket Associations for the nomination of six potential school cricketers in their region. The performance of the nominees in the last and current School Championships will carry seven marks out of ten. The remaining three marks will be given for the nominee's academic record and his ability to pursue education at college level.
The development managers will forward a list of six nominees from each region giving their own comments and preferences for the three cricketers to be selected out of the six. The PCB chairman will constitute a committee to review the recommendations and finalise nominations.
