Dhiraj Parsana is the coach of the Rajasthan team but more
importantly, he is a member of the pitch committee appointed by the
Board of Control for Cricket in India. Parsana and the other members
of the committee have suddenly come into the limelight because of the
talk going around of preparing sporting wickets against the South
Africans. However, the former left arm spinner made it clear that the
intentions of the committee were quite different.
``We can only suggest to the BCCI regarding changes, we cannot enforce
them," said Parsana. Then he went on to add, "The idea of preparing
green wickets against South Africa was a misconception construed by a
section of the media. Why would we want our own batsman to face the
South African quicks on a grassy track. What we have suggested to the
BCCI is that sporting wickets should be made for junior level
tournaments and that they should be introduced at the senior level
gradually. The change cannot happen overnight. It is better to
experiment with green pitches amongst the juniors."
The former Indian cricketer also added that the committee had
suggested to the BCCI to hold seminars every year with pitch
curators. "That way we can exchange knowledge and go in for uniformity
in pitch preparation in the entire country." He also has a
straightforward suggestion regarding domestic matches. "All important
games should be held at neutral venues. Then the players will become
tougher mentally."
