Reactions - "Ridiculous decision" to recall Rashid

Earlier this year, Adil Rashid took a sabbatical from red-ball cricket, stating that his "heart wasn't in it". Since then, he has accepted a white-ball contract from his county Yorkshire, and impressed in limited-overs series against Australia and India. However, despite his absence from domestic first-class cricket, England's selectors handed him a shock recall to face India in the first Test at Edgbaston next week.

Naturally, it upset those at Yorkshire, for whom he has not featured in first-class cricket since September 2017.

His recall, along with Moeen Ali, also meant there was no place for either of Somerset's spin twins, Jack Leach and Dominic Bess.

Rashid picked under 'exceptional circumstances' compounded by Leach's injuries and lack of bowling. From next year only those contracted to play red ball cricket will be selected. Clearly big issue between Rashid and Yorkshire.

Adil Rashid's selection tells you how bare the cupboard is for spinners in England. Also, I suspect, it could be an indicator of how bare the tracks might be. I wonder then, if England will play two spinners. That will be something!
