Hampshire members and supporters will be delighted to hear the news that Robin Smith has signed a new contract that will keep him with Hampshire for another four years. He has also been re-appointed as captain for the 2000 Season.
There had been media speculation that Smith was upset over the appointment of Jimmy Cook as 1st XI coach, and that he would be seeking talks with the club, as to quote Robin, "I should have been consulted over the final decision on such an important appointment. It appears the committee have gone over my head with this news".
The club in their recent press release stated that his appointment and new contract, follows a full and frank discussion on a number of cricket issues between senior Hampshire officials, and their captain
Robin Smith in return is now looking forward to working with the new First Team Coach, Jimmy Cook and the Club's Director of Cricket, Tim Tremlett.
Hampshire are very pleased with the outcome of these discussions and Tim Tremlett says: "We are delighted this matter has been resolved and we can now look ahead to what promises to be a very exciting season.
