ICC East Asia-Pacific Development Officer, Mr. Andrew Eade confirmed last
week, that he is working with Hong Kong Cricket Association officials to
resurrect the Hong Kong Sixes in a Cricket Max/Super Eights format.
As always with these sort of things, it is mostly dependant on sponsorship.
Cricket's most famous Sixes tournament, Chiang Mai International Cricket
Sixes, is now an officially recognised "ICC/United Nations Cricket Week"
event.
As a result, the event is likely to receive a visit from an ICC "Cricket
Ambassador" such as Sir Richard Hadlee or Allan Border.
Maybe it doesn't matter but compare these two situations:
The inaugural meeting of officials from countries in the ICC's East Asia-
Pacific region will be held later this month in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Rightly, it will include officials of all ICC Associate and Affiliate members
in the region, as well as those countries presently not members such as South
Korea, Tonga, New Caledonia etc.
Meanwhile, only the second ever meeting of officials from ICC Americas countries
to be held in Argentina this month will exclude both the Bahamas and Belize
despite both being Affiliate members of the ICC.
When BTW spoke to Bahamian and Belize officials in the past fortnight, they
were not aware the gathering of Canadian, American, Argentine, Bermudian and
Cayman Island officials was even taking place.
Two topics to be discussed at the meeting are the formation of a regional
association and the establishment of a tournament for Western Hemisphere
countries.
ICC Americas Development Officer, John Shepherd, said the Bahamas and Belize
would be included at a later date.
