Sad demise of a good friend

The President and the Executive Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka together with its staff and all the players, administrators and officials of the game extend their heartfelt condolences on the sad and sudden demise of Ms. Maryanne Decker - Sub editor Sports of the Ceylon Daily News.

On many an occasion, it was Maryanne's love of sport and commitment to her profession that meant she was very accommodating, despite difficult time constraints in terms of newspaper deadlines. This was extremely beneficial especially to outstation umpires and players, and to the quality of the game.

Maryanne's contribution to cricket has been invaluable.

To all of us who were fortunate enough to have known Maryanne, her pleasant smile, her positive attitude and quiet confidence will be greatly missed.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Maryanne's family, but more especially to her little baby - Sara Dielle, who will never know her mothers lovely smile and warm embrace.
