Sandals Resorts will jointly sponsor the West Indies cricket team's tour to the United Kingdom, this summer. The all-inclusive hotel chain will be an equal sponsorship partner with Carib, the Trinidad beer company.
This significant sponsorship investment underscores Sandal's long-term commitment to West Indies cricket and the further development of the game in the region. Sandals previously sponsored the West Indies cricket tour of the UK in 1995 while Carib sponsored the team's trip to the World Cup last year.
Forming an important part of the sponsorship package, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), in association with Sandals Resorts and Carib Beer, have devised an incentive awards scheme for the West Indies Cricket team. The awards scheme will be known as the "Sandals and Carib Incentive Awards" with a total purse value to be announced at a later date.
Commenting on announcement of the sponsorship agreement, Sandals' Chairman, Gordon "Butch" Stewart stated: "Our latest sponsorship of West Indies Cricket shows that we take the growth of our nation's greatest sport very seriously. We feel enormous pride in acting as a catalyst to raise awareness levels of the game to build a new fan base and support loyal followers. Sandals and West Indies cricket are a perfect match as we each share the common traits of pride in our islands, striving for excellence and delivering the highest levels of professionalism and satisfaction to our respective audiences."
WICB President, Pat Rousseau said "we are very pleased to have Sandals' commitment again as sponsor for the 2000 West Indies UK tour. Sandals' on-going support is warmly welcomed and is important in ensuring the development of grass roots cricket across the Caribbean, thereby facilitating the identification and training of the future stars of the game."
Commenting on the agreement, West Indies captain Jimmy Adams said: "We welcome the return of Sandals to the West Indies cricket family. We are very happy with the joint Sandals-Carib sponsorship which will be shared between the players and the Board and we will be doing our best to earn the incentive made possible through the support of these two companies."
