Schachat leads Israel to huge win over Germany

Israel began their campaign at the European U19 2nd Division Championships being played in Belgium with a huge win over Germany Monday.

Gabi Schachat led the way for the Israel team, scoring an undefeated 102 as Israel amassed 244/8 in their 50 overs, and then took four for 14 with the ball as the Germans were skittled for just 66 runs.

Schachat received good support from Nir Dokarkar (36) and his brother Rafi (20) as Israel recovered from a nervous start to post a very formidable total. Captain Safania Nagavkar took three wickets, and Shlomi Korman picked up two as Israel completed the 178-run win.

The century by Schachat, player of the tournament at last years U17 tournament, was the second of his career and the first by an Israeli in a youth international. Israel next meets tournament favorites Belgium today.
