Secondary Schools 'World Cup' Super 8 competition

The highly successful and very popular Super 8 competition, which was initiated by the Sydenham and Lancaster Park/Woolston cricket clubs, will take on a 'World Cup' flavour in the first school term

The highly successful and very popular Super 8 competition, which was initiated by the Sydenham and Lancaster Park/Woolston cricket clubs, will take on a 'World Cup' flavour in the first school term.
After a pilot tournament a year ago, this competition has now become available to all secondary schools in the greater Christchurch region. In the fourth term last year 22 teams took part in the three categories. Rangi Ruru were winners in the girls' competition while Rangiora and Lincoln were the respective winners of the boys' Under-15 and Under-18 categories.
The competition takes place on Wednesday afternoons, starting on February 12. The format is designed to give everyone a chance to bat and bowl. This participative structure is not only fun but also encourages 'first timers' to give it a go!
Each team will be given an 'adopted' country and players will be requested to wear the colours of 'their' nation. Entry is free while the only registration requirement is for the schools to complete the relevant registration form before February 5. Any further queries, please contact Nigel Marsh, Community Cricket Co-ordinator, on 027 224 9569.
