Two of Bangladesh's most exciting young prospects, the paceman Shadahat Hossain and the spinner Enamul Haq Jr, combined on the final day at Bulawayo to end Zimbabwe A's hopes and secure a 50-run victory for Bangladesh A.
The same pair combined to good effect during Bangladesh's successful campaign in last year's Under-19 World Cup, where they beat the favourites Australia in the final, and they were on song again today, as Zimbabwe lost their last eight wickets for 92 runs. Of the last eight batsmen, only the wicketkeeper Tafadzwa Mufambisi reached double figures, as Shahadat finished with 5 for 63.
Zimbabwe had made a promising start as well. Needing 299 for victory, after restricting Bangladesh to 232 in their second innings, they added 77 for the first wicket, and were at one stage 156 for 2, thanks to half-centuries from Terence Duffin and Dion Ebrahim. But when Ebrahim fell for 63, the middle order faltered.
The victory had been set in motion by Enamul's first-innings figures of 7 for 47, as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 188. He added a further three second-time around, to complete his second ten-wicket haul against Zimbabwean opposition in consecutive matches. Earlier this year he took 12 wickets at Dhaka to secure Bangladesh's maiden series victory.
The only century of the game was scored by Bangladesh's opener, Raqibul Hasan, who made exactly 100 out of an innings total of 254.
