Graeme Smith smashed the first triple century of his career as his Somerest dominated their match against Leicestershire. Smith took 255 balls to make his 311, hitting 27 fours and 11 sixes.
Only Sir Viv Richards (322) and Jimmy Cook (313 not out) have produced bigger innings for Somerset. Smith eventually fell to Claude Henderson but, having conceded 109 runs for his solitary scalp, the spinner had little to celebrate as Somerset closed on 533 in reply to the Leicestershire's 330.
"When I got to around 170 I realised I could be on for a really big one because I don't think I've ever struck the ball more cleanly," Smith told reporters at the end of the day. "I've made about five double hundreds, including two against England. My highest previous score was 277 so it feels good to have gone past the 300 mark. "This is a day I will always remember."
