Somerset have named Jason Kerr as their new coach to replace Kevin Shine. The former allrounder Kerr, 31, played at the county for nine years. He had one year with Derbyshire before an injury forced him to retire. His career spanned from 1993 to 2002 and he had 65 first-class matches.
"Being in charge of the second team will give a perfect opportunity for us to integrate some of the academy youngsters into the side," said Kerr, while the director of cricket Brian Rose added: "This is a very positive appointment."
Earlier this month, Shine announced he would be leaving the county to take up the new role of England's fast-bowling coach.
