South Africa ban logo use on bats
JOHANNESBURG, Sunday, South Africa have banned their players from
carrying commercial sponsors` logos on their bats because it
could gain more prominence than the main match sponsors, national
cricket chief Ali Bacher said on Saturday.
The decision runs counter to a ruling by the International Cricket Council (ICC) which introduced a rule change in July allowing
players to "rent" out the top nine inches on the front and the
whole of the rear of their bats.
"We feel a bat logo could have a greater impact on a viewer than
an event or a team sponsor logo on a shirt. We cannot allow
this," said Bacher, managing director of the United Cricket Board
of South Africa.
Bacher said the UCB had faxed the ICC expressing their concern
over the issue.
