South Africa v West Indies
Tony Cozier and John Ward
15-Apr-2005
At Durban, January 30, 2004 (day/night). No result (D/L method). Toss: West Indies.
Only Kingsmead's superior drainage and the industry of the groundstaff allowed play to start
on time after two days of torrential rain, but the weather had the final say. Powell, with 50 in 71
balls, was the one West Indian batsman to come to terms with a damp pitch that, once more,
assisted swing and seam. He was out before the first rain break, in the 28th over; a second break,
in the 31st, trimmed ten overs from the innings. South Africa's target was set at 169 from 40
overs under the Duckworth/Lewis system but only five had been bowled when the rain set in for
the last time.
Attendance: 20,286.
