A fine seventh wicket partnership of 122 runs between Manjula
Munasinghe (72) and Manoj Prasanga (54 not out) helped Union
Assurance to beat Singer (Sri Lanka) Limited by 79 runs in their
Mercantile `A' Division cricket match played at NCC grounds
yesterday.
Munasinghe hit five sixes and three boundaries during his 40
minute stay at the wicket while Prasanga had three hits to the
ropes and one over it having faced 42 deliveries. Earlier Duleep
Samaraweera made a sedate 33 with two fours.
The game was reduced to 37 overs due to overnight rain and Union
Assurance scored 221 for 7. Singer in their turn could score
only 142 for 8 with Rohan Soysa and Dinesh Dharmaratne top
scoring with 26 each.

Seylan Bank beat Sampath Bank
Powered by a superb century by wicket-keeper Lanka de Silva (100
off 108 balls, 4 sixes, 5 fours), Seylan Bank beat Sampath Bank
rather convincingly by eight wickets in their Mercantile `A'
division cricket match played at the Sara Stadium yesterday.
De Silva and Nuwan Shiroman (69 off 93 balls, 5 fours) shared an
opening stand of 176 off 194 balls to make short work of the
Sampath Bank total of 190 in 45 overs.
Off-spinner Tilan Samaraweera captured 5 for 34 off 8.5 overs to
restrict Sampath Bank to a score of under 200.
