Ranaweera ton fails to save Kingswood from defeat

Even the brilliant century by S.K.L. Ranaweera could not save Kingswood from a nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Dharmapala in their third term schools cricket match concluded at Pannipitiya on Saturday.

Kingswood 171 in 38 overs (M. Mereshan 10, D. Gamage 17, C.U. Jayasinghe 5 for 21, J. Segera 4 for 23) and 163 in 66.5 overs (S.K.L. Ranaweera 110, M. Mereshan 16, S. Devapura 4 for 46, J. Segera 3 for 20, C.U. Jayasinghe 2 for 54)

Dharmapala 214 for 9 decl. in 55 overs (C.U. Jayasinghe 44, H. Gunewardena 56, S.A. Wijeratne 25, N. Rupasinghe 4 for 74) and 21 for one in 3.1 overs (S. Devapura 10 n.o.)

Tissera grand 136 for St. Anne`s

A swashbuckling knock of 136 with 16 fours and 4 sixes by Charith Tissera helped St. Anne`s College, Kurunegala to force a draw in their inter-school cricket match against St. Anthony`s College, Kandy played at Katugastota.

For the Antonians, S. A. Pinnaduwa 96 (10 fours, 1 six) and Tharaka Gunaratne 61 (8 fours) put on 120 for the 3rd wicket in the second essay. Skipper Dilshan Witharne had six victims behind the stumps in one innings - 2 stumps and 4 catches.

St. Anthony`s College 233 for 5 decl. and 207 for 4 wkts at close in 60 overs (D. Witharne 36, A. S. Pinnaduwa 96, T. Gunaratne 61, T. Condasinghe 2 for 73).
