The Chairman of the ICA, Mr. Stanley Perlman, has been elected to the 13-member executive board of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the top body charged with running all aspects of world cricket.
Perlman was elected, along with delegates from Kenya and Malaysia, Mr. Jimmy Rayani and HRH Tunku Imran, from the 32 associate and affiliate members, together with representatives of the 10 test match playing countries. Together they comprise the central board which oversees the administration, the finances, and the structuring of the game at the international level.
Perlman, speaking to
www.israel.cricket.org from London, where he is currently attending the annual meetings of the ICC, was both proud of his personal achievement, excited about the challenge, and delighted at the tribute his appointment brings to Israel cricket in general, which in recent years has enjoyed amazing success in developing cricket amongst the local youth.
Speaking to Ha'aretz newspaper, former Israeli international player Leslie Susser noted "this is a very important, one could even say an amazing achievement, for Israeli sport, coming at a time when Israeli sport is regarded with suspicion and is often shunned on international playing fields".
Perlman, 53, has been involved in Israeli cricket for over two decades, first as an outstanding player and captain of the national team, and for the past 11 years in his administrative role as chairman of the ICA. He has served world cricket for many years as well, initially on the Auditing and Finance Committee, and more recently on the Management Committee - Cricket. Earlier this year he was honored with a Lifetime Service Award (Europe) by the ICC, which recognized his contribution to both local and global cricket.
