The Australian Cricket Board (ACB) today announced that South Australian left-arm fast bowler Brett Swain will replace the injured Paul Wilson in the Prime Minister's XI that takes on the West Indies at Manuka Oval on Thursday 7 December 2000.
Wilson has withdrawn from the match due to posterior impingement of his left ankle. The tall right-arm South Australian bowler injured the ankle in a Mercantile Mutual Cup match against Victoria at Punt Road Oval in Richmond on 12 November 2000. Constant workload since that match has aggravated the injury.
Twenty-five year old Swain has taken 61 first-class wickets in 18 matches and has been a regular member of the Southern Redbacks outfit this year.
Australian vice-captain Adam Gilchrist will lead the Prime Minister's XI, which was chosen by the National Selection Panel in consultation with the Prime Minister's office.
The Prime Minister's XI will be trying to maintain its recent record in the fixture that has seen it lose just two of its last twelve matches.
The opening of the new Bradman Stand at Manuka Oval, built with funding from both the ACT and Federal Governments, will also take place on the day of the match and is expected to be performed by the Prime Minister, the Honourable John Howard MP and ACT Chief Minister Gary Humphries.
Tickets for the match are still available through Ticketek on (02) 6219 6666.
