World Cup or pup cup? Don't make Alyssa Healy choose • AFP/Getty Images
Has Alyssa Healy lost her heart to a fan at the Women's World Cup? Videos coming out of the Australian women's camp would certainly indicate so. And honestly, who can blame her when the object of her affection is this adorable?
Healy seems to have found this rotund pup while training in the nets and seems to have spent a fair bit of her day carrying it around. And this isn't her first brush with the paw - earlier in the year she made friends with Cheddar at the MCG during the Women's Ashes.
Healy has pups of her own at home, Staffordshire terriers called Millie and Misty, who've cause her no little grief. In October 2023, when trying to break up a fight between the pups, one of her dogs chowed down on her index figure hard enough for her to require surgery for what she said was a "gory injury".
"I've got two puppy dogs who were having a rough and tumble, it got a little more than that and unfortunately got my hand in the wrong place at the wrong time," Healy said. "My right index finger took a bit of a battering. It was quite gory…the positive side of it is that the surgery all went well."
Luckily she suffered no tendon or bone damage and was back in action in a couple of months, this time leading the women's side.
Healy's Australia have begun their World Cup on a high, beating New Zealand by 89 runs in their first game. Their second game, against Sri Lanka in Colombo, was abandoned after a relentless day of rain.
