13 Feb Australian Press announce that attempt was made to bribe Allan Border by a Pakistani betting ring during Australian tour of England, 1993. BBC quotes that odds on an England win were 7-1 at that stage of a Test. A$1,000,000 may have been involved. Border, who is said to have responded with "Get Lost", declined to comment until meeting with the ACB.
MUSHTAQ Mohammad, the former Pakistan all-rounder, yesterday admitted suggesting that Australian captain Allan Border should throw the 1993 Edgbaston Test match but claimed he meant it only as a joke. (See BORDER_BRIBE_13FEB95)

15 Feb Sri Lanka's cricket board yesterday welcomed the International Cricket Council's decision to investigate allegations made by Dean Jones, the Australia batsman, who claimed he was offered GBP30,000 by an Indian bookmaker during the 1992 tour for inside information on the Australian team. Pakistan's Zimbabwe tour has been tainted by controversy after Zimbabwean accusations of racist 'sledging' and balltampering during the overwhelming Pakistan victory in the second second Test in Bulawayo. The Zimbabwe player Dave Houghton strongly criticised the umpires. Houghton, who expects to play despite a broken thumb in the Third Test which starts in Harare today, described the umpires B.C Cooray, of Sri Lanka, and Quentin Goosen, of Zimbabwe as "weak".
