13 Feb Australian Press announce that attempt was made to bribe
Allan Border by a Pakistani betting ring during Australian
tour of England, 1993. BBC quotes that odds on an England
win were 7-1 at that stage of a Test. A$1,000,000 may
have been involved. Border, who is said to have
responded with "Get Lost", declined to comment until
meeting with the ACB.
MUSHTAQ Mohammad, the former Pakistan all-rounder, yesterday
admitted suggesting that Australian captain Allan Border should
throw the 1993 Edgbaston Test match but claimed he meant it

Jones also reportedly revealed Monday that he was offered
A$66,000 by an Indian bookmaker to provide inside information on his team during the 1992-1993 tour of Sri Lanka.

14 Feb New Zealand`s former captain Martin Crowe has been rushed into
the side to play India in a limited-over Centenary match on
Thursday. Crowe was called up after hitting 193 not out for

Desmond Haynes` international future will be discussed at a
special general meeting of the West Indies Board of Control on
Thursday. The opener put his chances of an international recall
in doubt by opting out of the opening game of the domestic Red
Stripe Cup. Under board rules Haynes, who has not been on the
last two years, needed to play in every game to be available

15 Feb Sri Lanka's cricket board yesterday welcomed the International
Cricket Council's decision to investigate allegations made by
Dean Jones, the Australia batsman, who claimed he was offered
GBP30,000 by an Indian bookmaker during the 1992 tour for

Pakistan's Zimbabwe tour has been tainted by controversy
after Zimbabwean accusations of racist 'sledging' and balltampering during the overwhelming Pakistan victory in the second
second Test in Bulawayo. The Zimbabwe player Dave Houghton
strongly criticised the umpires. Houghton, who expects to play
despite a broken thumb in the Third Test which starts in Harare
today, described the umpires B.C Cooray, of Sri Lanka, and
Quentin Goosen, of Zimbabwe as "weak".

Feb 16 Northamptonshire have signed Australian-born left-arm
spinner Craig Atkins on a one-year deal. The 28-year-old
became a British citizen after living in England for
